The program consisted of a two day workshop to “Train the Trainers” for the implementation of a school-based drug prevention curriculum based on the comprehensive social influence approach. The main characteristics of the curriculum are as follows: • The program is based on the Comprehensive Social Influence Model, being interactive, integrating life skills elements and normative beliefs. • The target groups are adolescents aged 12-14 years, because this is the age when adolescents may start to experiment with drugs (particularly smoking, alcohol or cannabis). • It is dedicated to reducing drug initiation and/or delaying the transition from experimental to regular drug consumption. • The program consists of 12 units (including the pre-and post- test evaluations) and is based on recommendations that less than ten units programs had lesser effects than programs averaging fifteen units. The program was also extended to Rodrigues in September 2018. NGOS/ ASSOCIATION INITIATIVES OUTCOME Gender Links Creation of an “After School Club Project” in Cite Cim, Riviere Du Rempart for academic and extra curricular activities including art therapy, music and games. 24 18 Primary students and Secondary students attended the programme. Action for Integral Human Development Sponsorship of Zippy’s Friends program to promote the emotional well-being of children. 2 Primary schools in Rodrigues supported. Eli Africa Christmas party for the children of Cite Kennedy and Bambous where lunch and gifts were given to the children. Some 57 Children participated. Noyau Cite La Cure – Teen Hope Bakery project for youth social entrepreneurship program. 25 Adolescents participated. Atelier de Formation Joie De Vivre “Project – A Lunch A Day” – for a proper balanced meal to help them concentrate on their studies. 58 Youngsters supported. Drug Prevention Project Sensitisation campaign in schools for children aged 12 -14 to foster awareness on the scourge of drugs. The ‘Train the Trainers’ program targeted social workers in Mauritius and Rodrigues. 48 8 Some 1120 Schools in Mauritius and schools in Rodrigues participated.
