CFSL Annual Report 2024

Education Social inclusion (continued) Project: Supporting Education at Ecole Renganaden Seeneevassen, Cassis Background: Our support to Ecole Renganaden Seeneevassen spans five years, addressing challenges such as high absenteeism, resource shortages, and low pass rates in collaboration with Clavis International School. Past initiatives included training educators in innovative teaching methods such as the Leader in Me and Jolly Phonics programmes, donating school supplies, and organising remedial classes and educational exchanges. In 2024, the support evolved into a more systematic approach to increase the school’s pass rate, which stood at 44.4% in 2023, and improve student outcomes by the end of the 2024 academic year. Our response: This year, our support went towards introducing after-school remedial classes for Grades 5 and 6 with the help of existing school educators, taking the form of smaller groups for more personalised attention. A liaison officer was also hired to address the high absenteeism rate, reaching 50% on Mondays and Fridays, through regular home visits and stronger parent engagement. Additional support included appointing a psychologist to assist children with learning and personal challenges, three dedicated resources to offer students personalised attention in underperforming subjects, and a van to ensure safe transportation for students. A Christmas party was also organised in December 2023, providing lunch and gifts for all students. Students 147 Lives impacted Project: Supporting education in Rodrigues Background: The Rodrigues Regional Assembly is leaving no stone unturned in improving student performance, ensuring that all students on the island have access to nine years of quality basic education. The Commission For Education approached Cim Finance for a project focused on two schools: J Marioline Speville Grand La Fourche Corail Government School, the lowest-performing school with a 52% pass rate, and Ste Thérèse de L’Enfant Jesus RCA School, a ZEP school. Our response: Our intervention addressed literacy, numeracy, and engagement challenges through targeted actions designed to improve teaching quality and the learning environment. Teachers for Grades 5 and 6 from both schools participated in specialised coaching sessions at Mourouk Hotel, equipping them with modern strategies to better support low-performing pupils. To enhance the school environment, we facilitated the renovation of key areas to make it more conducive to learning and worked to strengthen parental involvement in their children’s education. Additionally, we organised educational tours for students of La Fourche Corail Government School, providing enriching experiences beyond the classroom to broaden their perspectives and inspire learning. At Ste Therese de L’Enfant Jesus RCA School we supported students by donating shoes and a printer. 370 students and 30 educators in two schools Lives impacted Total Amount Disbursed Total Amount Disbursed MUR 2,5m 74
