Pillar 3 Beneficiaries Partners: The community around Martello Tower Martello Tower Heritage – NGO Friends of the Environment In the 1990’s, Friends of the Environment initiated a noteworthy project to restore the historic Martello Tower on the coast of La Preneuse. This declared national monument serves as an important fragment of the island’s history, having been built during the 19th century as a coastal defensive fort. Over time, the tower fell into a state of neglect and served as a dumping ground for waste. We extended our support to this commendable project in line with our commitment to restore and preserve our natural heritage, while also enriching the local community through the employment of local guides. The restoration of the tower was a multifaceted project encompassing several components, including investments in modern and dynamic marketing strategies, the installation of directional road signs, the development of a dedicated website for visitors reservations, structural improvements, and the refurbishment of the museum.
