Communiqué for Card Payments

24 juin 2019

Further to complaints received from the public in general and the intervention of the Ombudsperson for Financial Services regarding card payments, CIM FINANCE LTD wishes to bring the following clarifications:

Pursuant to our POS merchant agreement, kindly be informed that both the acquirer and our merchants mutually agreed and are not allowed to charge our credit cardholders for any items of goods or services for a sales voucher which is in excess of our merchant’s normal price.

As such, we wish to advise our credit cardholders that any vendor in Mauritius who charges commission or an additional fee to its clients for payments effected with credit cards, is doing so in breach of rules in force in Mauritius and internationally.

These rules have been set to protect card users, who should not be discriminated against if they prefer using their debit/credit cards rather than another method of payment. The use of debit/credit cards offers greater security, reduces the risk of fraud, and results in greater financial transparency.

The public is therefore advised to report the case to CIM FINANCE LTD, to take the necessary actions accordingly.
